TEMPO.CO, Manila - The 7.2 Richter scale earthquake that hits the Philippines on Tuesday, October 15, has killed 107 people in several areas including Central Philippine, Bohol Island, Cebu, and Suquijor. Search and rescue teams are still struggling to evacuate the victims trapped under ruins of collapsed buildings.
Al Jazeera reported that 97 people were killed in Bohol Province, while nine victims were found in Cebu Province. Another victim was found in Siquijor Island.
The quake's epicenter was located 400 kilometers southeast of Manila. Local seismology agency reported 413 aftershocks following the initial quake, causing some areas to declare disaster emergency status.
Michael Ligalig, local newspaper editor, told Al Jazeera that some people were still in shock. He added that some hospital patients were taken to open fields in order to avoid further risk that may be caused by the aftershocks.
