TEMPO.CO, Sidoarjo - Displaced Shiites from Sampang, who are currently living in Sidoarjo, signed a peace treaty with dozens of people representing the Sampang residents. "This is our way of seeking reconciliation with the Shiites who currently reside in Sidoarjo," said Mohjahro, coordinator of the Sampang community, Monday, September 23.
Jahro said the signing of the peace treaty was purely initiated by the public, as an attempt to bring back peace in Sampang; recreating harmony between neighbors of both community. In addition, they hope to be able to return to their hometown.
The signing ceremony was attended by hundreds of Shiite Muslims from Sampang and 50 representatives of the Madurese. In the charter, the two sides agreed to make peace and forget about past incidents and conflicts.
Sampang Shiite leader, Iklil Al Milal, said that the Sampang Shiites had longed for peace charter. The Shiites decided that they will not to file a lawsuit over the torching of their houses by non Shiites in 2012. According Iklil, with the peace treaty signed, the Shiites expect the government to immediately repatriate all Shiites to their hometown in Sampang, Madura.
