TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to recent workshop by Dr. Ratna Djuwita KK at the Basic Cell Therapy and Free-Cell Therapy in Mayapada Tangerang Hospital, stem cell becomes the alternative for autistic and children with down syndrome.
The workshop revealed that quite many diseases can actually be treated using stem cells, such as psoriasis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and leukemia.
For Down syndrome treatment, the stem cells help to regenerate the damaged body tissues and repair the process in the neurons by repairing the false signal on the central nervous system. In treatment for autism, the treatment is assisted by psychologists. The interacting ability is monitored through the patient's eye.
"For patients with muscular dystrophy, stem cell will reform the shrunk muscular tissues," said Dr. Ratna Djuwita KK.
"We have been developing a particular research and have treated several cases with uplifting result. The stem cells can be used as treatment for many diseases since there are up to 237 cell numbers," said Dr. Indah Yulianto, SpKK, SpKK(K) Fins DV, FAAD DV, the Principal Researcher of Dermama Biotechnology Laboratory and the main speaker of the workshop.
The treatment using stem cells have to be supported by proper nutrition consumption and healthy lifestyle, she said. The treatment works very well on children, "Children's cells are still young, so they can accommodate the repair quickly," said Indah.
Dermama develops stem cells which are derived from human tissues using special procedure and are safe to use. This is different from many other stem cell treatments provided by foreign products which use stem cells from goats or lambs.
Dermama conducted a research in cooperation with Universitas Sebelas Maret in Solo and engaged four hospitals, namely Brawijaya Women Children Hospital in Jakarta, Muwardi Hospital and Muhammadiah PKU Hospital in Solo, also Mayapada Hospital in Tangerang.
