TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - While millions of mobile users are anticipating the launch of the new Apple products, iPhone 5S and 5C, cyber-criminals began making scam by distributing email spams of free give-away Apple devices.
"Your email has won the latest iPhone 5S smartphone and iPad in the Promotional Event held last week. To claim your reward, please click on online catalog trade link and fill in with your correct email and password's confirmation," said the email.
According to Smart Protection Network, these cyber-network criminals target South East Asia nations. Most victims are from Malaysia (57 percent) and Singapore (17 percent).
The phishing emails are pretty convincing, given its correct timing following iPhone introductory on September 10, 2013. However, they are clearly malicious, because the emails asked the consumers to deliver their passwords and personal informations.
