TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of Indonesian Television Broadcast Monitoring Institution, Roy Thaniago, said that the broadcasting of Democratic Party Presidential candidate convention in the Indonesian Republic Television (TVRI), on Sunday evening, September 15, 2013, violated Broadcasting Laws No. 32 of 2002. Roy said that TVRI should have not taking sides in broadcasting anything that are related to politics.
"We will collect all evidences regarding the violation," Roy said on Monday, September 16, 2013.
Roy added that TVRI had been criticized before for broadcasting events which were held by the Party of the Functional Groups (Golkar) and Hizbut Tahrir. the Democratic Convention last night was the longest time ever for a political event to be broadcasted in a public television.
President Director of TVRI Farhat Syukri was rumored to force TVRI's news staffs to broadcast the Democratic Party convention which was held at Grand Sahid Jakarta. It was broadcasted from 22.30 pm to 00.30 am.
According to Tempo's source in TVRI, Farhat initially forced the crews to broadcast the convention on live report. The crews rejected it, including TVRI Program and News Director Irwan Hendarmin.
