TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Sampang residents in Madura, East Java, and Shia believers from Sampang, who are currently being relocated at the low-cost rental apartments in Sidoarjo, East Java, have finally agreed to a truce. Both parties have arranged the draft of a treaty represented by some Shia ulema and residents from Sampang.
"The treaty will be signed in the near future. This treaty was purely at the request of the people of Madura," Abdul A’la Basyir, head of the Shia Sampang reconciliation team, told Tempo on Tuesday, yet he chose not to reveal the contents of the pact.
He added that the two groups are still in the process of aligning their perceptions and they have had enough of this conflict and agreed to make peace. Therefore, the residents of Sampang will welcome the return of the Shia Sampang community back into their rightful homes in Nangkernang hamlet, Karaggayam Omben Sampang village.
