TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apparently, consuming chocolate on a daily basis is able to help elderly people to maintain their brain function. A study conducted on 60 respondents revealed that drinking two cups of chocolate a day could help increase the flow of blood to the brain due to the high level of flavanol contained in chocolate.
Flavanol is a substance often considered to affect the condition of blood vessels. "Chocolate-based medication might be popular, but it is to early to conclude,"said Dr. Simon Ridley, Chief Researcher at Alzheimer.
Dr. Simon added that the brain requires more energy to think, therefore, it requires more blood to function properly. He also explained that poor condition of blood vessels can lead to dementia.
