TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Traveling together with friends or family in a trip can make great times, but that does not mean that traveling alone is not fun. We can chose destinations as we pleased without compromising too much problems if we are to travel alone.

To have a meaningful solo traveling, Mariellen Ward, the writer of travel blog Breathedreamgo.com and the founder of online community WeGoSolo, suggests the following tips as quoted by Women's Health Magazine on Friday July 26:

1. Make it easy for yourself

Solo traveling allows people to choose to go wherever they want. But that does not mean that we can go to Papua's remote areas or a continent far away without having been there previously. You could join a traveling group if you really want to go to new places.

2. Plan it well

Finalize your plan as good as possible. Use internet to search for best tourism spots. Do not forget to count the time zone difference. It will be awkward if you land on your destination in the middle of the night without you anticipating it.

3. Be egoistic sometimes

You can try sitting in the park for hours or visiting five restaurants in a day. Skip museums or other destination that people will usually visit. One of the most fun parts when traveling alone is that we can do whatever we want. So, allow yourself to be a little greedy and egoistic.

4. Always aware of your environment.

Avoid wearing clothes that will shows off too much of your body part when visiting a country with Muslim as its majority. Leave expensive and eye-catching accessories behind and use ordinary ones instead. Bringing along expensive gadgets is also not recommended.

5. Traveling 'alone', not being a 'loner'

There are times when we lost our way, and we should ask for the correct direction to get back on the right track. Talk to people around you. By traveling alone it will even increase your chance to speak with locals and gather information about the tourism destination. We can even find a new friend!

6. Keep in touch

Always keep contact with family or friends during our travel. If something ever happen to us, our family and friends will be there for us.
