TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Chinese citizen named Li, 34, was apprehended for trying to smuggle sabu-sabu (methamphetamines) weighing a total of 3,060 grams from Hong Kong. The crystal meth worth Rp4 billion (US$401,564) was smuggled in a new a unique way. It was hidden inside the wrappers of 50 pieces of Snickers chocolate and electronic packages.
Li arrived at Soekarno Hatta Airport on Friday, July 5, at 20.30 local time. Okto, an airport official, said Li’s movements were suspicious, causing airport officials to intensively search him.
When they opened his black Playboy luggage, they found 50 bars of Snickers chocolate.
"But inside the chocolate were sabu-sabu wrapped in plastic," said Okto. After they took apart all 50 bars of Snickers, they discovered 2.60 grams of crystal meth.
However, Li did not only smuggle the meth using chocolate bars. There was an additional one kilogram of sabu hidden inside an electronic toolbox in his luggage.
Li confessed to being a courier asked by Indonesians to smuggle the sabu into the nation.
"This is my first time in Indonesia," he said.
