TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Riot continues in Turkey, centered at the Taksim Square, Istanbul. "The world is eyeing on the Taksim Square to see what is happening there," Maryam Az Zahran wrote for Tempo on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
Adhit Nugraha, an Indonesian who studies in the Kocaeli University, told Tempo that authorities threw tear gases at people.
"The smell of tear gas went inside the house," he said on Monday.
Adhit witnessed the event on Friday at 21.00, local time. He was heading to his residence in Istanbul when he saw thousands of people went to streets to protest against the government.
"Some of the protesters wore Guy Fawkes masks, like the one in the movie, V for Vendetta," said Adit, whose house is only 15-minute away from where the protest took place.
The post-graduate student said that the people protested in front of the headquarter of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's political party. However, he said, the authorities went violent to the protesters. "Police threw tear gases and shot the people with water canon," he described.
