TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Everyone knows chocolate. Besides it tastes good, this snack is said to relieve stress. But still, there are people who worry too much about eating chocolate, because some said that chocolate could make your body gain more weight.
According to Tissa Aunilla, founder of Pipiltin chocolate cafe, there are 3 facts about chocolate that has not been widely known to people.
1. Chocolate does not make you fat.
A chocolate with a purity level above eighty percent does not use extra oil. All of the cocoa beans were mixed together along with cocoa powders and cocoa butters.
For a low purity level, they only used cocoa powders and added with vegetable oils. "Those oils that were high in fat," said Tissa.
2. Purity Level determines quality.
The higher the purity levels are, the less mixture it has. With eighty-one percent of purity level, only nineteen percent of the chocolate were added by extra ingredients such as sugar, milk or other emulsifier.
3. Cocoa beans produce cocoa powder and butter.
Cocoa beans that have been cleaned, dried, fermented and grinded could produce two basic forms of processed chocolate, which are the cocoa powders and cocoa butters.
In the chocolate manufacturing industry, cocoa butters were usually sold to cosmetics industry. "Cocoa butters are used for lipstick," said Irvan, the co-founder of Pipitlin. The rest of the cocoa butters were then used for a variety of chocolate-processed products, which were added by other ingredients such as vegetable oils, milk and sugar.
