TEMPO.CO, Berlin- A group of feminists' activists protested the opening of a Barbie house in Berlin Germany, citing that it was a propaganda of gender discrimination. The Barbie house was called Barbie Dreamhouse Experience, opening on Thursday. It is located near a shopping district of Alexander platz in East Berlin.
The pink mansion is half size of a football court and it needs hundreds of gallons of pink paint to paint the whole building. "They have a kitchen, a stage for fashion exhibition and karaoke, and other accessories related to Barbie dolls," BBC journalists Steve Evans said.
Inside the house, children can see Barbie dolls with the size of adult humans. They can also cook, try on the clothes, and play with hundreds of dolls. "With only 22 Euros, you can enter the house. But what image did they try to give to the little girls?" said Michael Koschitzki, the leader of the feminists groupss who are opposed to the Barbie house.
They claimed that Barbie is not a good example for kids because the figure of Barbie, that skinny girl with blonde hair, could bring the kids towards anorexia and some other things. "Our protest is only directed to little girls and their dreams," said Michael. "For us, Dreamhouse symbolizes a discrimination against women in the modern life. It presents a cliché about the real role of women in the society," he added.
