TEMPO.CO, Islamabad – The main prosecutor of the Benazir Bhutto murder case has been shot dead in Islamabad on Friday, May 3. Police informed that state prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali was dead after being shot multiple times by gunmen.
"He was murdered when he was driving to the next hearing of the case," said a police.
"His bodyguard was also wounded in the attack and a woman killed when Zulfiqar lost control of his vehicle," he continued.
The attack happened in a middle class neighborhood in Islamabad at noon during rush hour traffic,. Al Jazeera correspondent Kamal Hyder reported that Zulfiqar Ali was scheduled to appear in an anti-terrorism court in the neighbouring city of Rawalpindi on Friday, May 3.
Hyder said that Zulfiqar Ali had recently requested the ministry of interior to assign more men to protect him because he is responsible for investigating a high profile case.
"Nevertheless, he only has one guard and a driver," said Hyder.
