TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was not in Jakarta when thousands of laborers commemorated May Day on Wednesday, May 1. The President went to Surabaya, East Java, Wednesday morning.
“The president will celebrate May Day with Maspion and Unilever workers [in Surabaya],” Daniel Sparringa, presidential advisor for political communication, told Tempo through short message service.
Daniel refused to provide further information on why Yudhoyono left Jakarta. Last year, the president went to Batam on May 1, while the year before, he went to Tangerang, also on the same day.
