The Met Deploys 4,000 Officer to Secure Thatcher

TEMPO.COLondon - The British Metropolitan Police Service (the Met) confirmed that more than 4.000 police officers will be deployed at the funeral of Margaret Thatcher, the former British Prime Minister, which will be attended by many of Great Britain’s top officials, including the Queen, British Prime Minister, and other foreign officials.

Earlier, British counter-terrorism officials claimed that security around the country has been tightened since the Boston bombing incident occured.

Christine Jones , Met’s Commander, stated that despite the security concerns, people are allowed to held protests against the now deceased former British Prime Minister. She also confirmed that no arrest will be made as long as the protest does not involve violence.

"Every operation we organize is based on a thorough assessment of potential risks and threats, and we plan the most effective ways to mitigate it,” Jones said.

She said that protests will be allowed because the right hold a peaceful protest is a part of democracy. “As long as it meets the requirements and does not turn into a crime, act of violence, or provocation,” Jones concluded.
