TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesia and Malaysia have signed an MoU to explore oil palm seeds in Angola. The exploration plan will be carried out on July, said the Director General of Plantations from the Agriculture Ministry, Achmad Manggabarani, in his office at the end of last week.The MoU was signed in a meeting between Agriculture Minister Suswono and Malaysian Commodity and Plantation Minister, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, in Malaysia last week.Indonesia has explored oil palm plants in Cameroon. In Cameroon, there are 25 types of oil palm varieties.Angola is believed to be a center of oil palm seeds. The findings from the exploration will be planted in a seed center in Sijunjung, West Sumatra.The exploration is funded by the Center of Oil Palm Research (PPKS), PT Sucofindo, PT London Sumatera, PT Bina Sawit makmur, PT Tunggal Yunus Estate, PT Dami Mas Sejahtera, PT Tania Selatan, and PT Bakti Tani Nusantara. Manggabarani admitted that it do not know about the funds needed. As an example, Rp4 billion will be needed to be spent on the Cameroon exploration, he said.EKA UTAMI APRILIA
