TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran strongly condemns the US military attack near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Tehran condemns Washington for repeatedly violating ceasefire agreements and intimidating countries in the region.

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, stated that the recent US attack on Iran blatantly violates international law and the United Nations Charter.

Baghaei stressed that the UN Security Council is legally obliged to hold the US accountable for the aggression against Iran's territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also accused the White House of continuously violating the ceasefire since April 8. He mentioned that US aggression targeted commercial ships in the gulf, blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, and most recently carried out an airstrike near Bandar Abbas.

"Iran has the right to take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty under Article 51 of the UN Charter," he cited from Anadolu.

Baghaei highlighted that the "destruction" rhetoric against US officials is considered threatening to several regional countries, while expressing solidarity with Oman.

He stated that if even UN member states like Oman are threatened, despite their constructive role in regional peace efforts, it signifies the normalization of legal violations and intimidation within the international system.

Previously, on Thursday, a US official told Anadolu that the US military had shot down four Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, he also stated that they had attacked a military site in Bandar Abbas, which was alleged to be preparing to launch drones.

IRGC Counterattack

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have carried out a retaliatory attack targeting a US air base in Kuwait. According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, cited from Anodulu, the attack occurred a few hours after US air projectiles struck near the Port City in Iran.

In an official statement, as reported by AzerNews, the IRGC stated that every US attack on Iran will be met with a "tougher and more decisive response," while warning of potential conflict escalation if the war continues.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, emphasized that they will not be pressured or back down by the erratic rhetoric of US President Donald Trump.

"Iran will not be pushed back by Trump’s rhetoric from its red lines: the right to enrich uranium, possession of enriched uranium, authority over the Strait of Hormuz, and the removal of sanctions. It is obvious Trump, seeking a way out of this strategic deadlock, alternates between issuing threats and appealing for an agreement," Azizi wrote on social media X.

Kuwait Condemns Iran's Attack

Iran targeted a US military base in Kuwait on Thursday morning with a series of ballistic missiles and drones, which Kuwait claimed posed a threat to vital facilities and civilians.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned and denounced Iran's illegal aggression.

"Strongest condemnation and denunciation of the criminal Iranian attacks that targeted the territory of the State of Kuwait with missiles and drones, in a dangerous escalation," said the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, as reported in Asharq Al-Awsat.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry justified having the same rights regarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, referring to the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2817 of 2026. Kuwaiti authorities claimed that this escalation occurred while the Gulf states were making intensive efforts to reduce tension in the region.

The ceasefire came into effect on April 8 through the mediation of Pakistan, although negotiations in Islamabad failed to produce a permanent consensus. Furthermore, Trump unilaterally extended the fragile ceasefire indefinitely while continuing to block Iranian ships in international waters.
