By 2025, All Hindu Religious Education Teachers to Be PPG-Certified, Says Indonesian Ministry

November 10, 2025 | 09:46 am

TEMPO.COJakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has noted that the professional education certification (PPG) for Hindu religious education teachers has been completed 100 percent. Director General of Hindu Community Guidance I Nengah Duija stated that a total of 4,412 honorary Hindu education teachers have undergone PPG this year.

"Thus, the PPG certification in our educational institutions has been completed earlier," he said at a press conference in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

PPG is a teacher certification program aimed at improving the competence and professionalism of educators within the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The certification will later affect the amount of teachers' income through the allowance scheme.

Nengah Duija explained that Hindu educational institutions have a total of 7,495 teachers. Out of this total, 38.5 percent are teachers with civil servant (ASN) status, then 34.6 percent are honorary teachers, and the remaining 27 percent are government employees with work agreements (PPPK).

After this, Nengah Duija mentioned that they will no longer accept teachers who have not undergone PPG. Educators who wish to become teachers in Hindu schools must have completed their teaching certificate before applying. "So that when they are appointed, they no longer need PPG, but will directly receive certification," he said.

Furthermore, from an institutional perspective, Hindu currently has 110 pratama widyalaya or Hindu educational units equivalent to early childhood education (PAUD), 18 madyama widyalaya or equivalent to elementary schools, 10 adi widyalaya, 5 utama widyalaya, and 3 utama vocational widyalaya. "Out of this total, 10 schools are accredited as A and 68 schools have B status," Nengah said.

Meanwhile, at the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Religious Affairs had 625,481 teachers under its guidance who did not have PPG certification. The breakdown is as follows: 484,678 madrasah teachers, 95,367 Islamic education teachers in public schools, 29,002 Christian religious teachers, 11,157 Catholic religious teachers, 4,412 Hindu religious teachers, 689 Buddhist religious teachers, and 179 Confucian religious teachers.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs targets that all teachers will obtain their teaching certification within two years or by 2027. The granting of certification will be carried out gradually, with teachers who undergo PPG in 2025 being certified in 2026. Similarly, those who undergo PPG in 2026 will be certified in 2027.
