TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inspected Delimas Lubuk Pakam Market in Deli Serdang during his working visit to North Sumatra, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Accompanied by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan and Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, he bid farewell to the market traders.
“I will no longer be president for another 1.5 months. Please accept my farewell,” he stated in a press conference following the market visit, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel. “I apologize if there have been any policies that have caused inconvenience.”
Jokowi's presidency will conclude on October 20, 2024. After serving two terms as head of state, he will be succeeded by Prabowo Subianto. Prabowo, who emerged victorious in the 2024 presidential election, was also Jokowi's opponent in the 2014 and 2019 elections.
In addition to bidding farewell, the state head’s agenda at the Delimas Lubuk Pakam Market included reviewing the prices of basic commodities. He noted that the prices of several items were being monitored effectively. Shallots, for instance, were priced between Rp22,000 and Rp25,000 per kilogram. Garlic was available at Rp37,000 per kilogram, red chilies at Rp20,000 per kilogram, and cayenne peppers at Rp60,000 per kilogram.
“I believe the prices are reasonable, and we hope this situation will positively impact inflation in our country,” remarked Jokowi, the father of Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the vice president-elect for the 2024-2029 period.
One of Jokowi’s ministers who recently bid farewell was Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. She had previously expressed her gratitude to members of the House of Representatives (DPR) for their valuable input during her tenure in a meeting with the DPR Commission XI on August 21, 2024.
Sri also introduced Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono as her successor in the incoming government. “On behalf of the Ministry of Finance, we express our appreciation and entrust my deputy minister to continue the work,” Sri stated, pointing to Thomas Djiwandono.
