KPU, Jokowi Meet to Discuss Presidential Inauguration, Regional Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Six commissioners of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the KPU Secretary-General, Bernard Dermawan Sutrisno, met President Joko Widodo or Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta this afternoon, Wednesday, September 4, 2024. KPU and Jokowi discussed the 2024 election process, the inauguration of president and vice president-elect, and the preparation of the upcoming regional head election.
“Today, KPU reported the development of 2024 general elections and the 2024 simultaneous regional head election,” said KPU Chief, Mochammad Afifuddin, this afternoon.
The 2024 general election has entered its final stage, he explained, with the inauguration of elected members of the parliament and the president and the vice president-elect.
According to the plan, the inauguration of members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) for the 2024-2029 period will take place on October 1. Furthermore, the inauguration of the president and vice president for the 2024-2029 period is scheduled for October 20. The president and vice president-elect are Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Gibran is President Jokowi's eldest son.
According to Afifuddin, before the inauguration, the elected DPR members will be given a briefing with KPU and the National Resilience Institute.
Meanwhile, for the regional head election, KPU currently conducting health examination for prospective regional candidates. KPU will determine the regional head candidate pairs at the end of September.
Coordinator of the Presidential Special Staff, Ari Dwipayana, has not responded to Tempo's inquiries about President Jokowi’s instruction for KPU.
Meanwhile, Afifuddin said Jokowi conveyed his support for KPU’s commitment to organize the regional head elections in accordance with the applicable regulations.
