TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi stated that there had been no discussions regarding the proposed implementation of changing the fare scheme of the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line or KRL Jabodetabek based on the national identification number (NIK).
“I am not aware of it as there is no such discussion,” he said on August 30, 2024.
Under the new scheme, the train fare will differ based on riders’ IDs and income.
When asked further whether the plan would be considered in future meetings, the state head again expressed his lack of knowledge. He indicated that he was not yet familiar with the specific circumstances that led to the proposal.
“I am not aware of the current situation regarding the implementation of NIK-based KRL tickets,” he stated.
Thus, he said that he did not possess any information on the matter. “I am not aware of any discussions regarding that topic,” Jokowi said after inaugurating the Maternal and Child Respiratory Health Service Building at Persahabatan Hospital, East Jakarta, on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Previous reports suggested that the government was considering implementing the train ticket subsidy based on the NIK as outlined in the Draft State Budget or RAPBN 2025 submitted by the government to the House of Representatives (DPR).
As reported by Antara on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the document allocated a budget of Rp4.79 trillion for public service obligation (PSO) subsidies for trains, intended to support improvements in the quality and innovation of economy class train services, including Greater Jakarta Commuter Line, and to ensure that public transportation subsidies are more targeted.
A spokesperson for the Transportation Ministry Adita Irawati clarified that the plan was still under discussion and that its implementation timeline remained uncertain.
