Over 3,400 Joint Personnel to Safeguard MPR Annual Session Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of joint personnel will be on guard to secure the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Annual Session and the House of Representatives (DPR)-Regional Representative Council (DPD) Joint Session at the DPR-MPR Building, Central Jakarta, Friday, August 16, 2024.
Metro Jaya Police PR Chief Senior Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi the joint personnel comprises the National Police, Indonesia armed forces, and local governments.
"There is a total of 3,457 joint security personnel," said Ade Ary in his statement quoted on Friday, August 16, 2024. In detail, the Police deployed 3,137 personnel, the military as many as 223 personnel, and 97 personnel from local governments.
The security will be focused on several zones, including the DPR-MPR Building, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, and the Horse Statue.
In addition, joint personnel will safeguard President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s departure and return routes from the State Palace to the DPR-MPR Building. "To ensure security, safety, order, and smooth traffic," said Ade.
Ade explained that security will prioritize preventive measures and law enforcement supported by intelligence activities to anticipate potential protests, traffic jams, and terror threats.
Previously, the MPR Chair Bambang Soesatyo said the MPR Annual Session and the DPR-DPD Joint Session this year will be attended by 2,022 participants, including the president, vice president, ministers, MPR members, heads of governmental institutions, chairperson of political parties, and representatives of the community.
The president and vice president-elect, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were also invited.
Bambang said the MPR Annual Session will discuss several agenda, including Jokowi’s performance report speech and Indonesian Independence Day speech.
