TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of the House of Representatives (DPR) Indra Iskandar provided an update on the preparations for the upcoming Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), scheduled for August 16, 2024. Indra announced that this year’s session would be more festive compared to previous years.

Indra explained that the heightened festivities are in recognition of the final year for members of the 2019-2024 DPR period. "This is the last year of the President's term and the current DPR and Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) members. So, the decorations will be noticeably different, with a bit more grandeur," Indra stated during an interview at the DPR building on Monday, August 12, 2024.

He mentioned that the 2024 MPR Annual Session would feature traditional Nusantara batik ornaments, adding a distinct touch compared to previous years. These batik elements will be prominently displayed throughout the event.

"This year, from the drop-off area to the upper levels, including the lighting, everything will look a bit more festive," Indra added.

In addition to the decorative changes, Indra highlighted that the security arrangements for this year’s session would differ from previous ones. He cited geopolitical concerns as the reason for implementing stricter security measures, which will involve various state apparatuses.

"We are not taking any risks, so there will be a more straightforward security system in place, involving the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), Polri (Indonesian National Police), and Paspampres (Presidential Security Force)," Indra said.

Indra reported that the preparations for the MPR Annual Session are 70 percent complete. A full rehearsal and a final run-through are scheduled for August 14 and 15 to ensure the smooth execution of the session.

"The preparations are 70 percent done. On August 14, we will have a full rehearsal, followed by a final run-through on August 15," Indra confirmed.

The MPR Annual Session is a yearly event where the performance of the government over the past year is reported. The session will be attended by President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

Indra also revealed that President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka have been invited to attend the session, although their attendance has not yet been confirmed.

"We have extended invitations to the President-elect and Vice President-elect, but we still need to confirm their attendance," Indra said.
