TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy reported significant growth in the country’s creative economy sector, with export values rising by 4.46 percent to US$12.36 billion in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
Nia Niscaya, the ministry’s main expert, explained that fashion, crafts, and culinary industries have been the primary drivers of this growth, with the United States, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, and India as major export destinations.
“It has reached the 55.56% target for 2024 and 44.89% of its first-semester target,” Nia said in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, August 12, 2024.
According to her, the ministry aims for a total export value of US$27.53 billion this year. She expressed optimism that this target could be achieved by continuing to promote Indonesian tourism at the global level.
On March 1, 2024, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno also expressed optimism about surpassing the 2023 achievements. He recalled that last year, the value of the creative economy and tourism was recorded at Rp1,415 trillion.
He also emphasized the need to diversify export markets beyond the United States, Japan, and Hong Kong. According to him, it is time for the creative economy export market to penetrate Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.
