TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A passport issued by an authorized official of a country serves as a crucial document for international travel. Losing this document can be a stressful experience. This article provides a comprehensive overview of handling lost passports, both domestically and abroad, with information on required documents and potential fines as summarized from the Immigration’s page.
Lost Passport in Indonesia:
1. Police Report: File a police report promptly, detailing the circumstances surrounding the loss of your passport.
2. Replacement Documentation: Prepare the following documents for your passport replacement application:
A photocopy of your valid e-KTP (Electronic Identity Card) or a recording certificate from the Population and Civil Registration Office.
Family Card
Birth Certificate, Diploma, or Marriage Book (whichever applies)
Photocopy of the lost passport (if available)
Police Report
Certificate from the sub-district office, if damaged due to a natural disaster
Certificate of domicile, if living outside the passport issuance area
3. Register Online with Immigration
Visit https://antrian.imigrasi.go.id/ (the Immigration queuing website) and create an account or log in with Google. Alternatively, download the "Online Passport Service" app.
Fill in the required data, choose your nearest Immigration Office, and schedule your appointment, including the number of applicants.
Upon successful submission, you will receive a booking code and a digital queue number for reference.
4. Visit the Immigration Office
Arrive at the designated Immigration Office 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Submit all completed replacement documents for verification by an immigration officer.
The officer will provide further instructions regarding a follow-up appointment for a BAP (Interview with Immigration Supervision and Enforcement) process, typically scheduled three days later. You can schedule this follow-up appointment online through the same system.
5. BAP Process
Attend your scheduled interview with the Wasdakim officer (Immigration Supervision and Enforcement). During this interview, you will be asked to explain the passport loss or damage.
The issuance of a replacement passport depends on the BAP results:
-No Negligence: If the investigation reveals no negligence on your part, the replacement passport will be granted.
-Negligence: If the investigation reveals negligence, the issuance of a replacement passport may be suspended for a period ranging from 6 months to 2 years.
Following the BAP interview, you will likely be directed to the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to obtain a letter of approval for your passport replacement.
6. New Passport Issuance
Once you have acquired the approval letter, proceed with the application for a new passport. The process is generally similar to a standard new passport application. Schedule an appointment online, and during your visit, submit the letter of approval along with all required documents. You will then receive a payment slip covering the fine, if applicable, and the processing fee for the new passport.
Lost Passport Abroad:
What if your passport is lost while you are abroad? Here are the steps to take care of a lost passport abroad:
1. Report to Local Authorities
Report the incident to the nearest police station. Complete a form detailing the loss and chronology of events.
2. Contact the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate (KBRI/KJRI)
contact the nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate (KBRI/KJRI) in the country where you are located. Report your lost passport and request a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP).
The SPLP serves as a temporary passport to facilitate your return to Indonesia. To obtain an SPLP, you will be required to submit the following documents:
KTP (ID Card)
Birth certificate/marriage book
Family Card
Police Report
Copy of lost passport (if available)
Completed and signed SPLP application form
Passport-sized photo with a light background
3. Pay the SPLP fee

Processing time for an SPLP can range from one day to several weeks, depending on the embassy or consulate. Delays may occur if you cannot provide sufficient proof of identity or citizenship.
