TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi’s administration will hold a hybrid commemoration of the 79th Independence Day of Indonesia in Nusantara Capital City (IKN) and Jakarta. The administration continues to finalize preparations for the August 17 ceremony at IKN.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy explain the ceremony scheme after a preparatory meeting with Jokowi and several other ministers at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, June 10, 2024.
“Half are at IKN, and the rest in Jakarta,” he said.
Muhadjir explained that the government is almost ready with the preparations, and whether the airport will be functional by August will be announced in late July. If the airport is operational, state guests could enter the new capital directly without stopping by Balikpapan.
Previously, Jokowi also claimed on June 5 that preparations for Indonesia's Independence Day ceremony at IKN were almost complete. However, Muhadjir did not explain further which state officials will attend the ceremony in IKN and Jakarta.
“Maybe it will be split in two, for the ceremonies in Kalibata’s memorial park (in Jakarta) and the IKN memorial," said Muhadjir.
According to Muhadjir, Jokowi and President-elect Prabowo Subianto would hold a ceremony at IKN. Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka will be in Jakarta.
Jokowi said that around 80 percent of the interior and exterior of the first phase of IKN construction had been completed. He also said the government expects the construction to continue amidst changes in leadership at the new capital.
