Indonesian Actress Raline Shah Attends Cannes Film Festival for the Third Time

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian actress Raline Shah attended the Cinema of Indonesia event which is part of the official program of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The program, which aims to introduce various national film releases on the world market, was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud) and the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) .

"My presence at this event is to provide support to the Indonesian film industry which is increasingly proud of its extraordinary film works, even winning various world awards," said Raline Shah in a press release received by Tempo on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

The 39-year-old actress said that so many of Indonesia's best talents were taking part in the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and that always inspired her. "It is time for Indonesian films to be increasingly taken into account in the world cinema market and I am proud to be part of it," said Raline Shah.

Raline Shah Uses Beskap and Batik Cloth

Present in local designer attire, Raline Shah wore special beskap (Beskap is adapted from Dutch suits and comes from the word beschaafd which means civilized or cultured) by designer Sapto Djojokartiko and batik cloth from Iwan Tirta Private Collection in The Pisan Bali Borobudur motif which depicts the inspiration for the beauty of Borobudur Temple accompanied by spiritual wisdom and a bag from L'alingi.

Raline Shah's Third Time Attending the Cannes Film Festival

Raline Shah returned to the Cannes Film Festival this year. Apart from attending the premiere of the film by director Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinds of Kindness, starring Emma Stone, she also celebrated the diversity of films participating in the festival, including from Indonesia.

"My third appearance at the Cannes Film Festival is to become part of the film industry ecosystem and become a 'student' again. At this festival, I really enjoyed the process of learning so much from very experienced industry players, watching many films participating in the festival which were very well curated," said Raline Shah in a press release received by Tempo on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Raline Shah's presence this time was to fulfill an invitation from an artist management based in Los Angeles and which houses her in the United States, namely the Artist International Group led by David Unger. Raline Shah has been under the Artist International Group for several years. Management that oversees more than 200 world acting artists, including Michelle Yeoh, Saïd Taghmaoui and Siwon Choi.
