TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Austria and Indonesia will hold a series of orchestral concerts to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations. The series kicked off with the inaugural concert on Wednesday, May 8. The Jakarta Concert Orchestra and the Batavia Madrigal Singers choir will perform at the concert, along with guest star Julian Walder.
Conductor Avip Priatna will lead the orchestra in works by Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Avip said the musicians will perform works by both Austrian and Indonesian composers.
Avip said that musicians in this concert series will perform works by Austrian and Indonesian composers. "This orchestra is a bridge between the two countries," he said in a press conference.
Widya Sadnovic, Director of Europe I at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Indonesian government wants to see more exchanges between Indonesia and Austria. Not only do Indonesian citizens study in Austria, but Austrian citizens can also study art and culture in Indonesia.
Widya said that the series of friendly concerts between the two countries is an opportunity to show the creative industry in Indonesia. "Over 70 years of collaboration has brought significant progress to Austria and Indonesia," he said.
Austrian Ambassador to Indonesia Thomas Loidl said the three main areas of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Austria are health, climate change and education. "Cooperation in various fields for 70 years has brought significant progress to Austria and Indonesia," he said.
After the first concert, the musicians will hold a pre-tour concert abroad at the Kertanegara Recital Hall in South Jakarta on October 12, 2024.
The highlight of the event will take place in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, from October 22 to 26, 2024. It will feature 52 musicians from the Jakarta Concert Orchestra and 44 members of the Batavia Madrigal Singers, as well as three soloists.
