MUI: Everyone Must Accept MK Decision on Election Dispute Willingly

23 April 2024 12:30 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe deputy chairman of the advisory board of the Indonesian Ulema Council or MUI, Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi, said the MUI respects the Constitutional Court's decision on the 2024 presidential election dispute. The council, he said, believes that the decision was made through a proper, honest and accountable judicial process.

"The Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding, therefore there are no other legal remedies that can be taken by the parties," Zainut said in an official statement on Monday, April 22.

MUI also hopes that the decision of the MK ruling can end all disputes and all existing differences. MUI hopes that all parties can accept the decision of the Constitutional Court sincerely and willingly.

"All parties should be able to accept the decision of the Constitutional Court with grace," he said.

MUI also appealed to the entire community to be one again and not to be divided into groups and camps. Everyone, he said, should be in harmony to work together to build the nation.

Zainut said MUI also appealed to political party leaders, community and religious figures to continue to provide good education and become role models to restore the values of Indonesian unity and brotherhood.

The Constitutional Court or MK has decided to reject the presidential election dispute petition filed by Anies and his running mate Muhaimin Iskandar. The decision was not unanimous, with three judges dissenting: Saldi Isra, Arief Hidayat and Enny Nurbaningsih.
