TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Seven people died in the fire at the Saudara Frame and Gallery shophouse in Mampang Prapatan.
Mampang Prapatan Police Chief Commissioner David Yunior Kanitero said seven victims were found in one room on the second floor.
"All the victims have been found in one room on the second floor," said David in Jakarta, on Friday, April 19, 2024.
According to him, the fire was successfully extinguished and the cooling process was complete. "The officers are in the process of evacuating the bodies," he said.
He explained that the fire also injured five other people. Three of the injured, suffering from burns, are still being treated at Pertamina Central Hospital (RSPP), and the other two at Mampang Prapatan Regional Hospital. "The victims suffered burns in several parts of their bodies such as the head, hands, and feet," he said.
Previously, the Head of Jakarta Province Fire and Rescue Agency, Satriadi Gunawan, said that officers had succeeded in extinguishing the fire that burned down the shophouse. To expedite the extinguishing process, officers put down the fire from both inside and outside of the shophouse.
"There is no fire anymore, [but] because the smoke is still thick, we are pulling out the smoke by making ventilation so the firefighters can go inside calmly," said Satriadi, stating that the cooldown process is underway.
According to him, officers extinguished the fire more than four hours after the incident was reported on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at around 07:30 p.m. local time.
