TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded new money exchange volume reaching Rp1.13 trillion as of April 3, a week before Eid. The central bank said that between March 15 and April 3, 176,121 people made 586 transactions to exchange mint banknotes through the intelligent.bi.go.id app.
BI's director of money management Faris Faris Budiawan said the central bank also distributed Rp138.19 trillion in cash to banks to serve the public and maintain the availability of money at ATMs.
"As of April 3, 2024, Rp139.31 trillion or 70.51 percent of the estimated Rp197.58 trillion has been distributed," Faris said in a written statement on Monday, April 8.
Faris said the public was enthusiastic to receive fresh new banknotes at mobile cash service points organized by Bank Indonesia and banks. He mentioned the money exchange period at Istora Senayan from March 28 to 31, where BI and 16 other banks provided money exchange services to more than 14,500 people with a volume of Rp55,143 billion.
Faris said there were some obstacles during the exchange of new money, such as crowds at the beginning of the activity. However, the problem was solved by organizing the queues.
He said there were also some complaints from the public about the quota restrictions on the amount of money that could be exchanged. However, he said that BI has increased the exchange quota from 500 packages in the Pintar application and given an additional 50 percent quota for on-site exchanges.
