TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi could become special adviser to President-elect Prabowo Subianto. Bahlil reminded that anything can happen in politics.
"Yes, anything can happen. As long as it is within the constitutional framework," Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, April 8, 2024.
But on the same occasion, Bahlil said Jokowi's involvement would not extend to cabinet formation. The former chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association, or Hipmi, said Jokowi understood what presidential prerogatives were.
The idea of Jokowi becoming Prabowo's special adviser was first raised by former PDI-P Perjuangan (PDIP) politician Maruarar Sirait during an iftar and charity event for orphans in Central Jakarta on Sunday, April 7.
Sirait said one of the reasons he and his volunteers supported Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka during the election was because they promised to continue Jokowi's programs. "That is why Jokowi will be a special adviser to the president and vice president," he said in an official statement on Sunday.
Jokowi's term will end on Oct. 20, 2024, when Prabowo will be inaugurated by the People's Consultative Assembly. The General Elections Commission has declared Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka - Jokowi's son - the winners of the 2024 presidential election.
However, his rivals Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo, along with their respective running mates, are challenging the presidential election results at the Constitutional Court (MK).
