2024 Eid; 30 Millions Travel to Hometown by Private Car

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An official at the Ministry of Transportation forecasted the number of Eid homecoming trips in 2024. The Ministry’s Land Transport official Yusuf Nugroho said that the proportion of homecoming travel by private cars is expected to be around 18.29 percent or about 35.42 million people. The ministry predicted the peak of homecoming traffic to occur on D-4 and D-2 of Eid day on April 6 and 8.
Meanwhile, car users are expected to be around 8.01 percent with about 11.64 million homecoming travelers. "With the forecast of travel peaking on April 14-15," Yusuf said in a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, April 4.
In total, the Transportation Ministry predicted the number of people who travel on Eid homecoming trips this year to reach 193.6 million people.
Most homecoming travelers are from Java Island regions at 59.54 percent, Yusuf said, with the highest potential from East Java areas at 31.3 million people. As for the destination, it is still in Java Island at 80.2 percent and 61.6 million of them are traveling to Central Java.
The Ministry of Transportation has prepared several Eid traffic posts to monitor the homecoming and return traffic, not only in Trans Java but also on national roads.
The monitoring period has started from April 3 to April 18 in the national posts. The ministry has set up several facilities to support the Eid homecoming trip, including parking lots, toilets, and MSME tenants in these locations.
