TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs, in collaboration with textile industry players and designers, launched the Indonesia Global Halal Fashion (IGHF) during the Indonesia Fashion Week in Jakarta on Thursday (March 28).
Head of the ministry's Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH) Muhammad Aqil Irham stated that the holding of the IGHF is expected to promote the development of Muslim fashion, which is believed to be instrumental in leading Indonesia to become the world's halal fashion center.
"Halal fashion that starts from certified halal textile products and fabrics is expected to help Indonesia emerge as a fashion center in the world," he noted in a statement received from his office here on Saturday.
Irham observed that the development of halal fashion would surely be among the steps that can boost the halal value chain in the country.
Halal textile and fabrics are required as raw materials by Indonesian designers, he remarked, adding that the government will help Indonesia-made halal fashion products to penetrate export markets, including in the Middle East and Europe.
He believes that in this way, Indonesia will be able to solidify the existence of its Muslim fashion at the global level.
Currently, Indonesia ranks third in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator, according to a report released by DinarStandard in 2023.
According to Irham, it is crucial that Indonesia intensively promotes its Muslim fashion products globally to achieve the top spot in the halal fashion industry.
He underlined that the government had made various efforts to involve Indonesian Muslim fashion products in renowned fashion events, such as the New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week, Turkey Fashion Week, and Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week.
"We need to promote our halal fashion products in the international scene through renowned fashion weeks," he stated.
He then revealed BPJPH's plan to conduct a roadshow in five countries by collaborating with a national halal fashion brand to disseminate information on the importance of halal certification and promote Indonesian halal fashion products to the global market.
