TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf/Babaparekraf) Sandiaga Uno said Indonesia’s participation in the India Gaming Show 2024 is a significant move to project Indonesian gaming onto the global stage.

The ministry, in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Mumbai and the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) marked Indonesia’s presence as country partner at India’s prestigious gaming show in Pune, Maharashtra, from March 14 to 16.

Minister Sandiaga emphasized that this initiative was a direct response to the Presidential Regulation Number 19 of 2024 aimed at accelerating the development of the national game industry

"The Indian game market alone is projected to reach 5 billion US dollars by 2025 and the India Gaming Show 2024 provides an opportunity for Indonesian game developers to expand their reach, especially with India," Sandiaga said in a press release.

With the total economic value of Indonesia's gaming market reaching approximately US$1.1 billion in 2023, and a dominant presence in the Southeast Asian gaming scene, the country is poised for further growth.

The Indonesian Pavilion featured prominent game studios Hexaplay, Anantarupa, Ginger Sun Studio, and Marica, along with the Indonesian Game Developers Association (AGI), underlining Indonesia's creative prowess. M Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Economy and Creative Products, noted the diverse gaming interests in the Indian market, from RPGs and Action games to MMORPGs, presenting a fertile ground for Indonesian offerings.

"India's policy by limiting access to game products from China also opens up great opportunities that can be optimized for Indonesian game companies both B2B and B2C," Neil said.

The event also celebrated the cultural and demographic synergies between Indonesia and India, with AGI Advisor Ami Raditya highlighting the potential for mutual acceptance and growth in the gaming sector between the two nations.

AGI Advisor, Ami Raditya, explained that Indonesia and India have many similarities, especially in cultural roots, so this is a very good niche for Indonesian games to be accepted in India, and vice versa.

"So we believe that as two countries that have a very large demographic, the collaboration between Indonesia and India can become the axis of the new power of the game industry in the world," Ami said.

This sentiment was echoed by the Indonesian Consul General in Mumbai, Edi Wardoyo, who underscored the importance of India as a trading partner and the broader aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation.

A milestone was the exchange of Non Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) between Indonesian studios and Indian companies, paving the way for exclusive licensing and co-publishing deals that promise to enrich the gaming ecosystems of both countries. Notably, Anantarupa studio partnered with Jio Games for the Lokapala game, while Ginger Sun Studio and Hexaplay secured significant commitments for their games "Unrivaled Heroes" and Null Horizon, respectively.

Additionally, the Indian Gaming Show 2024 hosted a Moba Counterstrike grand slam, featuring the Indonesian team Garuda Wisnu, attracting a substantial virtual audience, further demonstrating the event's role in fostering competitive gaming spirit.
