TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is reluctant to comment much on the ongoing vote recapitulation process for the results of the 2024 elections at the General Elections Commission (KPU). He pointed out that the vote count in two provinces has not yet been completed.
The head of state left this morning for a working visit to West Kalimantan. The national vote recapitulation process at the KPU is expected to be completed today, including the legislative and presidential elections.
“[When the vote recapitulation] in two provinces is ready, [the votes] will be counted and all complete. The KPU should then hold a meeting and declare it,” Jokowi said on the sidelines of a working visit to Mempawah, West Kalimantan, Wednesday, March 20, as quoted from a video released by the Presidential Secretariat.
The KPU has yet to finalize data on election results for two provinces, namely Papua and Papua Pegunungan. The provincial election organizers are scheduled to arrive in Jakarta this afternoon. The recap process is still ongoing.
KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said earlier that the agency would issue the minutes and decisions after the recapitulation of all 38 provinces was completed. “Hopefully it can be done smoothly and on time,” he said at the KPU office on March 19.
The preliminary vote count showed that Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is President Jokowi’s eldest son, won the majority of votes in 34 out of 36 provinces, or 58.51 percent of the national vote.
