Indonesia's Constitutional Court Calls for Support for Palestine During 21st WCJJ Forum in Venice

20 March 2024 13:33 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Constitutional Court or MK called for support for Palestine at the 21st World Conference on Constitutional Justice or WCCJ Bureau meeting forum in Venice, Italy.

This was expressed by Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat who led the MK delegation. Arief said that the Constitutional Court believes in a common view regarding humanitarian aspects and upholding human rights as a value that unites the WCCJ organization.

"Various human rights violations and humanitarian tragedies across the earth should not have happened," said Arief in an official statement, quoted on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

He then regretted that many countries claimed to uphold law supremacy while committing a series of international law violations.

"The world must not close its eyes when faced with the issue of the humanitarian tragedy in Palestine which has been going on for decades," said Arief.

Moreover, he said, both countries, namely Palestine and Israel, are members of the WCCJ Bureau. The Bureau meeting this time was attended by several presidents of Constitutional Court associations from various regional and linguistic areas.

For example, the Constitutional Court of Asia, Africa, Europe, Eurasia, and the Association of Portuguese-speaking Constitutional Courts, French-speaking Constitutional Courts, Arabic-speaking Constitutional Courts, as well as representatives from each continent
