KPU Election Results Announcement Today, Schools in Central Jakarta Apply Distance Learning

20 March 2024 09:40 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission or KPU will determine the results of the 2024 elections today, Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Today, KPU will complete the vote recapitulation of the two remaining provinces, namely Papua and Papua Pegunungan.

"And after the recapitulation is all completed, we will prepare the KPU Decision on the election results at the national level,” Hasyim Asy’ari, KPU Head said in his statement on Tuesday.

The announcement of both the legislative and presidential elections must be carried out no later than 35 days post-election, according to Election Law No. 7 of 2017.

The KPU decision, said Hasyim, can be used by election participants as an object of dispute over election results to the Constitutional Court.

"The only object of dispute or lawsuit to the Constitutional Court is the KPU Decree on the determination of national election results, which is a summary of the results of all elections at all levels," said Hasyim. The decree will include the vote recapitulation of the presidential elections, DPR, DPD, and DPRD at both the provincial and city levels.

Meanwhile, KPU member Mochammad Afifuddin said that the remaining vote recapitulation must be carried out maximum in the afternoon. KPU also targets the determination “in the afternoon, before the evening”, according to Afif.

Thus far, there are 36 provinces out of 38 provinces that have carried out recapitulation at the national level. Running Pair number 2 Prabowo-Gibran led in 34 provinces while the remaining two were won by Anies-Muhaimin.

Protest against election results

As the election results announcement nears, several communities plan to hold massive demonstrations at KPU and DPR.

Anticipating this, the government of Jakarta will implement distance learning for some schools in Central Jakarta. Head of the Education Sub-Department for Region I of Central Jakarta Rahayu Asih Subekti confirmed that schools in four sub-districts implemented distance learning for two days, namely on March 19-20, 2024.

The four sub-districts are Sawah Besar, Menteng, Gambir, and Tanah Abang. Meanwhile, Kemayoran, Senen, Johar Baru and Cempaka Putih sub-districts will only implement distance learning on Wednesday.

"The students will return to class on March 21, 2024," said Rahayu.

Previously, a group calling itself the Joint Alliance of College Students, Youth, and Students will hold a demonstration in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

The Head of the Public Relations Department of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Ipda Ruslan Basuki confirmed this report. Ruslan said the demonstration will begin at 11:00 a.m. today. "There are 10,000 people [joining the protest]," Ruslan told Tempo via messaging application on Sunday.
