Apindo Backs Policy on Carry-on Import Restrictions

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo) Chair of the Trade Sector, Anne Patricia, expressed support for the government's recent policy on carry-on import restrictions, as outlined in the Trade Minister’s Regulation No. 3 of 2024.

Anne affirmed that appropriate regulations should be based on the government's industrial aspirations.

“This regulation is also prompted by complaints from the textile and textile products (TPT) industry regarding the lack of control over the import flow of textile and garment products,” Anne said in a press conference with the Indonesian Textile Association (API) at Graha Surveyor Indonesia, Jakarta, Monday, March 18.

Anne assessed that the policy is in line with the wishes of the industry players while providing certainty for workers. She emphasized that industries, including the textile industry, could provide added value to the Indonesian economy.

As widely reported, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said that Ministerial Regulation No. 3 of 2024 which has been in effect since March 10, 2024, restricts carry-on goods purchased by passengers from abroad following tax abuse through jastip or buying purchase.

The Minister stressed that any purchases from abroad brought to Indonesia should be subject to tax as per the existing regulations.
