TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo has become an iconic destination for tourists in Central Java Province. The mosque, a gift from Saudi Arabia Prince Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, is gearing up to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri.
Various activities will be held during the fasting month and will peak on March 30, which will be a special commemoration of Nuzulul Quran and Sheikh Zayed Humanitarian Day.
Munajat, the director of the grand mosque, said that Ramadan's joy and festivity will be celebrated through a variety of events, including the Ngabuburit (waiting for Iftar) and Breaking the Fast Together, starting at 4 p.m. with captivating entertainment shows.
“As of today, at least 20 groups from various community members, Islamic boarding schools, madrasahs (Islamic schools), and schools will perform at the Ngabuburit event at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo,” he said in Solo City on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
The performances will range from hadrah (Islamic music), Silat or martial arts show, traditional Saman dance, and others.
To add to the excitement, competitions will be held both online and offline in the mosque area, with total prizes amounting to tens of millions of rupiah.
“People can also enjoy the garden in the mosque area, which is one of the landmarks of the mosque, Bustanul Quran garden, with plants mentioned in the Al Quran and hadith,” he explained.
The Sheikh Zayed Solo Grand Mosque will provide iftar feasts for visitors, including takjil and a full meal. “We will prepare an average of 7,000 pax per day, [the number] will be adjusted according to public enthusiasm, but the maximum is 10,000 pax per day,” Munajat concluded.
