TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Balikpapan Station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected 39 hotspots spread across East Kalimantan.

"A total of 39 hotspots were monitored throughout last Wednesday, from 01:00 a.m. to 00:00 a.m. local time," said Data and Information Coordinator for Class I Station Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan BMKG Balikpapan, Diyan Novrida, as quoted by Antara on Thursday.

The distribution of these hotspots has been informed to related parties, such as the Fire Rescue and Extinguishing Service, Manggala Agni, and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) at both provincial and district levels, to encourage further actions.

The 39 hotspots were an increase compared to Tuesday’s 25 hotspots. Considering the escalation, Diyan urged all parties to stay alert and prevent wildfire-inducing activities. Caution was needed since several areas were experiencing hot weather for days.

Diyan explained that there were 25 hotspots on Tuesday across three districts, namely East Kutai (10 spots), Kutai Kartanegara (14 spots), and Berau Regency (one spot). Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 39 hotspots were monitored in three districts, namely West Kutai (3 spots), East Kutai (17 spots), and Kutai Kartanegara Regency with 19 spots.

The hotspots in West Kutai Regency were spread across two sub-districts, namely Bongan (1) and Jempang (2). "East Kutai Regency with 17 spots in over four sub-districts, namely Bengalon (7), Kaubun (1), Kongbeng (1), and Muara Wahau Sub-district (8),” Diyan added.

In Kutai Kartanegara Regency, BMKG reported 19 spots were monitored, spreading across six sub-districts, namely Tenggarong Seberang (1), Anggana (1), Kota Bangun (1), Muara Kaman (15), Muara Muntai (1), and Sanga-Sanga District (1).
