TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is set to promoting the country’s commitment to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the World Expo 2025, scheduled to take place in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to October 13, 2025, the Ministry of National Development Planning said in a press release.

Under the theme "Thriving in Harmony: Nature, Culture, Future," the Indonesian Pavilion aims to spotlight Indonesia’s efforts in implementing sustainable development practices. Emphasizing green and blue economy strategies, the pavilion's design features a symbolic boat, underscoring Indonesia's voyage towards sustainable development and future potential. This initiative aligns with the country's long-term vision, "Sovereign, Advanced, and Sustainable Archipelago," aiming for a "Golden Indonesia" by 2045.

Minister of National Development Planning and Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, highlighted Indonesia's significant strides in achieving SDG targets. Citing a 2023 United Nations report, Monoarfa noted that Indonesia ranks among the top upper middle-income countries with notable progress in SDGs, having climbed from 102nd to 75th place globally since 2019. The country's SDG index has improved from 64.2 to 70.2, with 63% of indicators meeting their targets and 16% showing significant advancements.

Addressing the challenges of the Triple Planetary Crisis, including climate change, pollution, and natural resource depletion, Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources at Bappenas, Vivi Yulaswati, underscored the urgency of escalating efforts to achieve SDG targets, shedding light on the dire global environmental challenges.

"As many as 50-75 percent of the world's population is threatened by climate in 2100. Air pollution causes the death of 4.2 million people every year and as many as 1 million plants and animals are threatened with extinction," she said.
