TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apart from planes, the public transportation that is quite popular with foreign tourists when they come to Indonesia is trains. Apart from being comfortable, using train services can also be an interesting experience for foreign tourists. So, how do you book train tickets for foreigners?

Just like local residents, to order train tickets, foreign tourists can order directly through the counter or by downloading the 'KAI Access' application. Here is a guide for you:

Conditions for Buying Train Tickets

Before that, you should understand what requirements must be met when buying a train ticket:

1. Indonesian citizens (WNI) must use their NIK (ID number), even babies must have a NIK.

2. Foreign citizens (WNA) must use the identity number listed in their passport.

3. Ticket purchases will be rejected if the ID format does not match the NIK or identity number in the passport.

This provision is implemented to make it easier and provide comfort to passengers during the boarding process, considering that vaccination data and PCR/antigen examination results integrated in the 'Peduli Lindungi' application have been recorded and can be accessed by boarding officers.

How to Order Train Tickets via the KAI Access Application

The following are the steps that need to be followed to buy train tickets for foreign tourists via the KAI Access application:

1. The initial step is to ensure that you have downloaded the KAI Access application from the Play Store or App Store to your device.

2. You need to create an account first if you don't have an account yet. However, if you already have an account, you can directly enter the application.

3. After successfully logging in, the next step is to choose the type of train you want to use, whether it is intercity or local train.

4. Select your desired departure destination and arrival destination.

5. Next, set a departure date and enter the number of passengers who will be taking part in your trip. If you plan to make a round trip, activate the appropriate button and set the return date.

6. After that, press the "Search for Intercity Tickets" (Cari Ticket Antar Kota) button and choose the train that suits your preferences. You also have the option to check the availability of other dates by tapping the date row located at the top of the screen.

7. Fill in the passenger data carefully. If there are still empty seats available, you can choose the seat you desire.

8. Make sure that all the information you entered is correct, then continue by clicking the "Pay Now" (Bayar Sekarang) button.

9. Select the available payment method and complete the payment process immediately.

10. After all the steps above have been completed and payment has been successful, you will receive a booking code. You can exchange this code for an original ticket at your departure station.

Can you order train tickets directly without booking?

For those of you who want to buy train tickets directly without booking, of course you can go to the counter at the station. Later, the officer will help you with ordering train tickets. Make sure you have prepared the required documents and cash.

However, if you are on holiday during high season, it is not recommended to buy directly because tickets may run out. It's best to book trains well in advance during high season.

When is the train check-in time in Indonesia?

The check-in process for train departures can be done anywhere from seven days to one day before the scheduled departure.

However, for check-in carried out within one day before departure, the process can only be carried out at the departure station or a station located between the travel route according to the train ticket held by the passenger.

You have the option to use the e-boarding pass feature provided by the KAI Access app. This feature is available both for tickets purchased via the KAI Access application and through official PT partners. Indonesian Railways (Persero).

The way to do this is by adding the booking code for purchasing the ticket to the 'My Trips' menu in the Access application.

E-boarding pass is a form of electronic boarding pass that can be accessed via the KAI Access application. You can download this e-boarding pass starting two hours before the scheduled train departure.

If you already have an e-boarding pass, you no longer need to carry out the check-in process (print the boarding pass) at the station upon departure.

How to Get Cheap Train Tickets?

To get cheap tickets, you can use the 'GoShow' ticket purchasing system, namely buying train tickets at least 2 hours before departure.

Usually KAI will provide discounts of up to 50% for purchasing train tickets 2 hours before departure.

You can get tickets for this service directly at major stations or passenger departure stations, or you can also buy them on the KAI Access application.
