TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two supporters of presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 01 Anies-Muhaimin reportedly died during the grand campaign rally at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on Feb. 10.
“[They were] helped by volunteers,” Tanjung Priok Sectoral Police Chief Commissioner Nazirwan confirmed via short message on Feb. 12.
However, Nawirzan refused to elaborate on the reasons for the deaths. Circulating reports revealed that a 58-year-old supporter, D, was suffering from a gastric acid disease but insisted on attending the final campaign rally in North Jakarta. He was a resident of Indramayu, West Java.
Upon arrival at 7:30 am, the man collapsed and was immediately rushed by the medical team to the Sulianti Saroso Infectious Diseases Hospital (RSPI). However, D was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The other supporter, AR, was a 57-year-old man from Bandung, West Java. The entrepreneur reportedly took his last breath at JIS.
Tempo tried to reach the medical team of the Anies-Muhaimin campaign team. However, no response has been received so far.
