TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of passengers using the Jakarta-Bandung Whoosh High-Speed train increased by 50 percent during the long weekend commemorating the Islamic Isra Miraj and the Chinese New Year, train operator PT KCIC informed.
"The Whoosh Hogh-speed Train has served 20,000 passengers this holiday, an increase of 50 percent compared to the same period last week," KCIC's general manager corporate secretary, Eva Chairunnisa, said in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday.
She informed that the surge in passengers began on Wednesday (February 7, 2024), when Southeast Asia's first high-speed train served around 18,000 passengers, 47 percent higher than the figure recorded in the previous week.
"To accommodate the increase in demand, KCIC has added eight trips, making it a total of 48 trips available per day," she said.
For the holiday period, KCIC has also increased the total seats available by 4,808 with the addition of trips, she added. Therefore, the Whoosh train can serve as many as 28,848 passengers on a daily basis.
"The additional trips are meant to meet the needs of people, considering that the majority of tickets have been sold. Hence, we decided to increase the number of trips to adjust to people's high level of demand," she said.
Chairunnisa added that the Whoosh fast train has proven to be a highly effective means of mass transport for people seeking congestion-free travel between Jakarta and Bandung, especially during the long holidays.
According to a survey, 48 percent of the train passengers used to rely on their private vehicles to travel between the two cities, she added.
Tickets to the fast train can be purchased via official channels, such as the Whoosh app, the ticket.kcic.co.id website, ticket vending machines, and ticket counters at stations. People can also acquire tickets through partner apps, including Access by KAI, Livin by Mandiri, BRImo, and BNI Mobile Banking.
