TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta commuter train, or KRL, number 1694 of Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung line hit a sedan car that broke through the train doorstop. The accident took place at KM 53+4 between Daru and Tigaraksa, Tangerang, on Thursday, Feb. 8.
KAI Commuter External Relations and Corporate Image Care Manager, Leza Arlan said that two people died in the accident. "Based on the update from the authorities, there are two casualties," he said when contacted on Thursday, February 8.
He explained both victims were from the sedan car's passenger seat. The officers were evacuating the car and ensuring there was no damage on the train route.
The accident happened at around 12:35. Leza said the train was able to continue the trip to Rangkasbitung at 13:08.
"A re-check will be carried out in Rangkasbitung," he said. As a result of this incident, five commuter line departure schedules at the affected stations experienced delays, Leza added.
KAI Commuter also conducts engineering of operating patterns following the accident. Leza said that the Rangkasbitung-Tanah Abang KRL with series numbers 1741 and 1742 only serves trips to Parungpanjang.
Leza appealed to passengers not to force themselves to board if the train was already full. "We urge passengers to continue to follow the rules and directions from officers," he said.
