Top 5 Tallest Buildings in the World; Including Burj Khalifa

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - What crosses your mind when you hear about the tallest building in the whole world? If it's Dubai's renowned Burj Khalifa, you would be right on track.
But do you know any other buildings also considered the tallest? Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has the answers. According to the council that actively develops international standard to measure and define tall buildings, the five tallest buildings in the world are:
1. Burj Khalifa
Burj Khalifa remained in the first rank of the list. Named after Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the building reaches 828 meters in height with 162 floors. The building spent US$1.5 billion for its construction which kickstarted in 2004 and was officiated in 2010. Burj Khalifa also holds the record of the tallest manmade structure, surpassing Taipei 101 which held the last tallest building in the world until 2010.
2. Merdeka 118
Located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the building is 678.9 meters and surpasses previous second position, Shanghai Tower. The building is dubbed Merdeka 118 for the same number of floors it had.
3. Shanghai Tower
In the third position is the tallest building in China, the Shanghai Tower. Located in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai, this tower houses 128 floors with 632 in height.
Officially dethroned as second highest building as Merdeka 118 was officiated, this building was part of Lujiazui Financial District planning in 1993. The first one was the Jin Mao development in 1999 and Shanghai World Financial Center in 2008. Meanwhile, Shanghai Tower was established in 2015 with construction of US$2.4 billion.
4. Makkah Royal Clock
Makkah Royal Clock is the fourth tallest building in the world with 601 meters height and 120 floors. Located in Abraj Al-Bait, the seven skyscrapers complex is owned by Mecca, Saudi Arabia as part of King Abdulaziz Waqf Project. The construction of this building took up over US$15 billion and was intended to modernize catering for pilgrims.
5. Ping An International Finance Center
The 115-floor building is located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. With a height of 599 meters, this skyscraper is ranked fifth in the tallest building list in the world and second in China.
Finished construction in 2017, Ping An International Finance Center also holds the record of highest observation deck at 562 meters. The building cost over US$1.5 billion.
