TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, claimed that there are many society problems faced by the Indonesian people, but the 'elites' did not put any attention to any of them. Anies conveyed this in the fifth presidential debate at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Central Jakarta on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
“These are problems that the elite few care about. This is the concern of the common people," said Anies when explaining his vision and mission in tonight's debate. These problems, said Anies, are about various kinds of violence experienced by Indonesian citizens.
Anies revealed several problems that he thought were of little concern to a number of high-ranking officials in the country. "Mental violence, sexual violence, more than 15 million people are victims of these," said Anies.
Apart from that, Anies also highlighted the lack of equal opportunities for all Indonesian people. The former Governor of Jakarta also expressed frustration in seeing this reality. "High capabilities but no opportunities, it's very frustrating to see," said the candidate from the Coalition for Change.
According to Anies, one of the problems comes from unequal access to education. An example, he said, are educational institutions which are often located far from remote cities. Anies said this made the future of Indonesian society bleak.
Anies also discussed other problems, such as the millions of people who do not have access to a prosperous life. He revealed that there were 45 million people who had not worked properly. Apart from that, said Anies, there are also more than 70 million people who do not have social security.
Therefore, Anies claims to be able to see the enthusiasm of residents to make changes. "Because of that, in our one year journey, we found millions of people who flocked to want change," he said.
It is known that the final presidential debate tonight raised the themes of social welfare, culture, information technology, health, employment, human resources, inclusion and education. Anies Baswedan faced two other presidential candidates in this debate, namely Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo.
