Stanford to Build Digital Ecosystem Hub in Indonesia's IKN

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) disclosed several collaborations with international institutions, including with renowned global universities, for the development of the country’s new capital city in East Kalimantan.
Bambang Susantono, the head of OIKN, said that Stanford University in California, United States, is one of the universities that will develop the digital ecosystem center in IKN in the next two months.
“We have an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Stanford, and in the next two months, inshallah, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony to establish a digital ecosystem center,” Bambang said at a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Information in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 30.
The IKN Authority signed the MoU with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, Stanford University, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. The signing was witnessed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
Bambang explained that it will be a hub for the development of digital talent in Indonesia, as there will be universities and startup companies. “We are creating a digital talent community there,” he added.
He also said that the IKN Authority has also collaborated with several well-known research centers in the world, such as the Center for Liveable Cities in Singapore and the World Resources Institute in Washington DC, as well as South Korea's Hyundai for the development of the flying taxi project in IKN.
