Sri Mulyani Optimistic Indonesia's 5.2 Percent Economic Growth This Year

30 January 2024 12:31 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani expressed optimism regarding the country’s economy and its potential to achieve 5.2 percent growth in 2024 based on the assumptions of the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN).

“The strong growth projection in 2024 is mainly driven by election activities,” Sri said in a press conference at the Finance Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 30.

She hoped that the election agenda and continued implementation and completion of the national strategic projects (PSN) would have a positive impact on government and community consumption.

She mentioned that there are still various global risks, such as economic weakness in several countries including China, rising geopolitical tensions, and global fragmentation.

However, the state treasurer assessed that the national economy would remain resilient amid the global uncertainty and economic slowdown as the economy is supported by domestic demand, which could compensate for the external economic weakness.

The economy in the third quarter of 2023, she added, was expected to grow 5.5 percent year to date, which was supported by consumption and investment.

Sri Mulyani further estimated that the signs of resilience in the domestic economy would continue in the fourth quarter of 2023, thanks to the manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI), which is consistently in the expansionary zone at over 50 percent and the trade balance surplus.
